Ridge Street Elementary School

Ridge Street Elementary School in Newark, NJ is a historic register building built in 1894. This $38 million project proposed a gut renovation to modernize the school while preserving the historic exterior and significant interior features. Also proposed were additions to triple the size of the Pre-K to 8th grade school, including a new auditorium, gym, cafeteria, and classroom wings. The project was designed for LEED silver certification and included solar panels, a partial green roof, and many recycled materials. The additions used a simplified version of the building's Flemish style to blend in with it while still showcasing the original historic school.*
